Prof. Ritschkoff obtained her PhD in Biosciences at the University of Helsinki, Finland in 1996. She has been at VTT Technical Research Centre of Finland, a globally networked, multi technological not-for-profit research organization, since 1987 in various research and research management positions. She has more 100 scientific publications.
Prof. Ritschkoff holds currently the position of Executive Vice President, Strategic Research, CTO. In this role she is in charge of VTT`s research function, and steers technology strategy, EU activities and research partnerships.
Prof. Ritschkoff has significantly influenced on VTT´s research activities on the areas of natural resources, environmental and clean technologies and bioeconomy. She has been a member in the High-Level Groups, composed of the opinion leaders from the industry, ministries, Finnish Parliament and research institutions, responsible for the establishment of the National Natural Resource Strategy and National Strategy on Bioeconomy.
Prof. Ritschkoff contributes to Finnish and European innovation systems through various position of trust. She is a member of temporary ESF expert Committee in materials science and engineering in European Science Foundation. Recently she has been nominated as a Vice chair to the Horizon 2020 Advisory Group for “Leadership in Enabling and Industrial Technologies, Nanotechnologies, Advanced Materials and Advanced Manufacturing and Processing” (LEIT-NMP) by the European Commission. She is actively building strategic networks between VTT, Universities and companies according to EIT KIC principles as being responsible for VTT, University and RTO relationships. She is an active member and a member of the Executive Board of EARTO (European Association of Research and Technology Organizations) which influences the European innovation system by regular dialogues with key persons in European institutions (European Commission, LERU, Industrial associations and by producing policy papers.
Throughout her career, Prof. Ritschkoff has possessed several member- and chairmanships of international committees and board of directors. Her experience from the Board of directors of legal entities includes the chairmanships Board of Directors of VTT/MSI (VTT/molecular Science Institute), USA, and Board of Trustees of University of Jyväskylä. In addition to that she holds currently the positions of the vice chairman of Executive Committee of the Foundation for Research of Natural Resources, membership of the Scientific Advisory Board of Finnish Environment Institute (SYKE), and membership of the pre-selection committee for the 2014 Millennium Technology Prize of Technology Academy Finland.
